چکیده

It is evident that in the new Web era, content volume and services availability play a major role, leaving behind typical static pages which have solely text and images. The majority of the business oriented service providers are concerned for the Quality of Services (QoS), in terms of content delivery. In this context, proxy servers and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) have been prosposed as different technologies, dealing with this concern. Their common goal is to bring content close to the users, reducing the response time. Both technologies demonstrate different advantages and disadvantages. CDNs are characterized by robustness in serving huge amounts of requests and content volumes. However, their main shortcoming is that due to replication and distribution cost, replica placements should be static for a large amount of time. This leads to unoptimized storage capacity usage since the surrogate servers would contain redundant, possibly outdated, or unwanted content. On the other hand, proxy servers adapt content caching according to varying access patterns, using cache replacement algorithms. However, proxy servers do not scale well for serving large volumes of data or user populations. In an effort to combine the advantages of both, earlier recent work [2, 20, 29, 30] investigated different approaches that enable Web caching in CDNs, taking proxy servers’ characteristics into account. As new caching ideas emerge, the need for a CDN testbed, suitable for performance evaluation and stress testing, becomes evident. Such a testbed should provide a

Combining replica placement and caching techniques in content distribution networks

Caching and replication have emerged as the two primary techniques for reducing the delay experienced by end-users when downloading web pages. Even though these techniques may benefit from each other, previous research work tends to focus on either one of them separately. In particular, caching has been studied mostly in the context of proxy server systems, while replication is the technology b...

Optimisation d'un réseau de distribution de contenus géré par un opérateur réseauOptimization of vido Delivery in Telco-CDN

The exploding HD video streaming traffic calls for deploying content servers deeper inside network operators infrastructures. Telco-CDN are new content distribution services that are managed by Internet Service Providers (ISP). Since the network operator controls both the infrastructure and the content delivery overlay, it is in position to engineer Telco-CDN so that networking resources are op...

Integrating Caching Techniques on a Content Distribution Network

Web caching and replication tune capacity with performance and they have become essential components of the Web. In practice, caching and replication techniques have been applied in proxy servers and Content Distribution Networks (CDNs) respectively. In this paper, we investigate the benefits of integrating caching policies on a CDN’ s infrastructure. Using a simulation testbed, our results ind...

An Optimization of CDN Using Efficient Load Distribution and RADS Caching Algorithm

Nowadays, while large-sized multimedia objects are becoming very popular throughout the Internet, one of the important issues appears to be the acceleration of content delivery network (CDN) performance. CDN is a web system that delivers the web cached objects to the client and accelerates the web performance. Therefore the performance factor for any CDN is vital factor in determining the quali...

Optimization of Content Caching in Content-Centric Network

Video on demand (VoD) systems currently use content delivery networks (CDN) to feed content to users, whose performance and effectiveness depends on the architecture, the number and the geographical location of CDN nodes deployed by CDN providers or ISP(s) itself. Content-Centric Networking (CCN), with the benefits of caching and sharing content by every node in the network, suggests an alterna...
